1.1 Introduction

In pursuance of the National Action Plan of the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC), Bangalore, for performance evaluation, assessment and accreditation and quality upgradation of institutions of higher education, NAAC proposes that every institution should establish an Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) as a post-accreditation quality sustenance measure. St. Xavier’s College, Jaipur primarily works towards delivering quality and holistic education and NAAC accreditation (first cycle) is another step in this direction. Thus, for preparing the institution towards accreditation IQAC has been constituted in May 2018. Since quality enhancement is a continuous process, the IQAC will strive to address the need of quality and commitment to excellence at Xavier’s by becoming a part of the institutions system. In keeping with its Jesuit heritage and identity, the prime task of the IQAC is to develop a system for conscious, consistent and catalytic improvement in the academic and administrative performance of the institution. This can be achieved by cultivating the capacity and dispositions for reflective and critical thought, creativity, research and innovation in its main stakeholders, that is staff and students of St. Xavier’s College. IQAC also aims to identify and cultivate extra-curricular talent and potential of both staff and students, which will go towards strengthening the vision of the college.

1.2 Functions of IQAC according to NAAC

  • Consistently developing and applying the quality benchmarks/parameters for the various academic and administrative activities of the institution through internal audits, departmental and management review meetings.

  • Facilitating the creation of a learner centric environment conducive to quality education which is done by implementing value added/certificate courses by all the departments in order to keep the students abreast with developments in their subject.

  • Arrangement for feedback response from all the stakeholders’ viz. students, parents, alumni and other stakeholders on quality related institutional processes through online feedback system and by placing suggestion boxes at various places in the college and consequently preparing an action taken report based on the measures taken by management on suggestions/feedback received by IQAC.

  • Dissemination of information on various quality parameters of higher education by circulating IQAC newsletter every year.

  • Organization of intra and inter-institutional workshops, seminars on quality related themes and promotion of quality circles and personal visits across different institutions to study the best practices.

  • Documentation of the various programmes/activities leading to quality improvement. This is to be done by specially created documentation center of the college with IQAC.

  • Acting as a nodal agency of the institution for quality-related activities, including adoption and dissemination of best practices as directed by the management.

  • Development and maintenance of institutional database through MIS for the purpose of maintaining/enhancing the institutional quality. This is to be done through ERP system.

  • The penultimate objective of IQAC is to develop Quality Culture in the institution.

  • Preparation of the Annual Quality Assurance Report (AQAR) to be submitted to NAAC based on the quality parameters as a post accreditation measure.

1.3 Benefits of IQAC according to NAAC

  • To heighten the level of clarity and focus in institutional functioning towards quality enhancement and facilitate internalization of the quality culture.

  • To bring the enhancement and integration among the various activities of the institution and institutionalize many good practices.

  • To provide a sound basis for decision-making to improve institutional functioning.

  • To act as a change agent in the institution.

  • To improve the internal communication and build an organized methodology of documentation.

1.4 Strategies of IQAC according to NAAC

  • IQAC shall evolve mechanisms and procedures for: Ensuring timely, efficient and progressive performance of academic, administrative and financial tasks which is done with the help of different departments and other units of college. Also, preparing policies, guidelines, standard operation procedures for different academic and administrative units, cells, clubs, committees and departments of the college.

  • The relevance and quality of academic and research programmes which is done with help of heads and Xavier’s Research and Publication Cell (XRPC).

  • Equitable access to and affordability of academic programmes for various sections of society which is done by the admission policy of the college.

  • Optimization and integration of modern methods of teaching and learning which is done through timely conduct of faculty development programmes and knowledge training workshops.

  • The credibility of evaluation procedures which is done by an independent examination system through Examination Cell of the college.

  • Ensuring the adequacy, maintenance and functioning of the support structure and services which is done with the help of counselors/mentors, heads and vice principal.

  • Research sharing and networking with other institutions in India and abroad. This is done by linkages with industries and the community service.

Role and Responsibilities

IQAC

    1. Chairperson –
  • to convene and chair the meeting of IQAC

  • to approve the suggestions placed by the steering committee before placing it in the IQAC meeting

  • to act as a bridge between college management and IQAC

    2. Coordinator –
  • to get the directions from chairperson on behalf of college management

  • holds the responsibility to execute the functions of IQAC on behalf of the chairperson and to coordinate with college management

  • primary point of contact for NAAC during the accreditation process

  • to discuss and execute the minutes of IQAC in consultation with members

  • to coordinate with all the members for the effective implementation of functions of IQAC

  • to coordinate with steering committee coordinator for NAAC process

  • to coordinate with all the academic and administrative heads for smooth execution of the functions of IQAC

  • any other task entrusted by chairperson or management

    3. Members –
  • to work in coordination with IQAC coordinator for the effective implementation of functions of IQAC

  • to execute the role/ tasks assigned by IQAC coordinator as a part of the strategies of the IQAC and to give suggestions as when needed

  • to assist the coordinator in successful implementation of the functions of the IQAC

  • to facilitate a smooth process for the preparation of NAAC accreditation by engaging all the staff members
